Notes

Born in 1930 at Chateau de la Motte (see additonal image [PS 264]), Eshowe Pitcairn-Pennink, second daughter of Theodore and Marijke Pitcairn, in her brown dress which Smit had chosen for this portrait, remembers the posing session in the studio at Thoury-Ferrottes. She asked the artist if she could keep the flowers that she had just picked.
