"[…] Then Ph.[ilippe] came with his wonderful painting I can not discribe it. The background is that marvellous piece of velvet which has this olivegreen yellow color. The vase is the one we have on the piano. The bouquet are all kind of bessen (red and black) en riet je weet wel Rij [Marijke] dat riet dat bij de vijver staat net of het sigaren zijn en dan de wilde orichideën [3 mots illisibles] worden. It is so different from any flower peace [sic] he made. Wonderfull is the only thing I can say. I was very very very happy. Daddy [Nicolaas Urban] said if I did not like you so much I would hate you for getting such a painting. […]" [sic]1
