So far there is no indication which allows us to identify Philippe Smit’s relationship with the Mangins. Only in a postcard Smit mentions the present he gave to them: "[…] je leur ait fait cadeau au[x] Mangin, il sont ci heureux/ avec[,] ne criez y pas car c'est affreux. Mais je n'ai plus rien/ a donne[r]. Je pouvais difficillement donner la legende [PS 211 ?]./ Consollez vous mes Chères je leur est donnez le/ Zuiderzee est-ce bien? ... Je leur avais promis quelques/ chose ça vous en rappeller n'est ce pas." [sic](… I have given a present to the Mangins, they are so happy with it, don’t scream because this is horrible. But I have no more to give. I could hardly give the Legend [GLEN04 ?]. Rest assured my dear, I have given the Zuiderzee to them, is that good? … I promised them something, you remember this, don’t you.) (fig.1)
