Notes
This little pastel is probably a view of the "Mare aux Fées" (fig. 1 & 2) or of the "Mare aux Pigeons", places to stroll along in the Forest of Fontainebleau. In a letter1 to Theodore Pitcairn, Nicolaas Urban speaks of a pastel which represents "la mare aux pigeons" but we have no certainty that it correponds to this work.
