Notes

This pastel is a copy of the painting which is today in the collection of the Norton Simon Art Foundation, USA, Inv. 1976.06.P. Philippe Smit could have seen the "Saltimbanques" at the Paris Ecole des Beaux-Art exhibition of 1901. But we think that he made his copy after a reproduction at a later date.
